A leading engineering support firm is among the latest global companies to move its headquarters to Adelaide, South Australia.

Global engineering support services company Babcock International Group has created 48 new highly skilled jobs in Adelaide after opening the doors to its new Australasian Regional Support Centre in the CBD.

The company has relocated its Mission Critical Services division from Brisbane, establishing Adelaide as the company’s Australasian headquarters.

Babcock Australasia Chief Executive Officer David Ruff said the establishment of a new, larger central support centre in Adelaide made economic sense.

“We came to South Australia because we see a great pool of skills and talented, young people, particularly in the engineering space,” he said.

“It provides a consolidated platform to sustain our growth, across both Australia and New Zealand.”

Babcock has centralised its aviation, defence and engineering expertise to South Australia under an agreement with the State Government.

“The establishment of this centre is a great win for our state as it delivers new jobs and high level expertise into South Australia,” Premier Jay Weatherill said.

“Having Babcock’s key decision makers locally based in Adelaide, will put our State front of mind for future investment plans as the Babcock Australasia business seeks to grow further.”

City of Adelaide Lord Mayor Martin Haese said Adelaide’s central location and world-class travel and freight infrastructure were key drawcards for business investment.

“Adelaide is one of the best cities in the world to live, work, do business and invest,” he said. “It offers the ideal combination of quality of life, convenient location, efficient public transport, world-class infrastructure and proactive government support for business.”

Babcock International is a leading engineering support services company which operates in the defence, nuclear, telecommunications, transport, emergency services, minerals and energy and educations systems across the globe.
