This week, the Australian Financial Review revealed their prestigious ‘Australia’s Top 100 Restaurants’ Awards with South Australia accounting for more than 10% of the culinary heavyweights.
Six of the thirteen South Australian restaurants that made the esteemed list are located in the city. The stunning East End proved to be a culinary jewel in Adelaide’s crown with Africola, the brainchild of Bistro Dom former head chef Duncan Welgemoed, coming in at number 5. Jock Zonfrillo’s Orana was ranked 23 on the back of being named Gourmet Traveller’s Restaurant of the Year 2018.
With the MasterCard SpendingPulse report for February showing South Australia’s restaurant sales growth was leading the way nationally at 13.5 per cent, it is evident locals and visitors alike are embracing the enviable food and wine offering in our State. This has led to food and wine service increasing by 11 per cent in recent times. As Adelaide’s reputation as the fifth most liveable city in the world grows globally, international visitation has increased significantly as travellers flock to Adelaide to enjoy a truly unique experience. Chinese tourists to Adelaide have increased by 122 per cent and American travellers have increased by 78 per cent since 2013.
