World Routes, a major global annual aviation networking event, will bring approximately 3,000 international delegates from 130 different countries to Adelaide 21-24 September.
The conference will bring the biggest players in world aviation to the CBD, including airline network planners, airport business development managers, tourism authorities and consultants to discuss new airline route opportunities. The potential of additional routes both in and out of Adelaide will further propel South Australia’s visitor economy which soared to a record $7.2 billion this year. From September 2017 to September 2018, over 390,000 international visitors contributed just under $1 billion to the city’s local economy alone.
World Routes will provide an opportunity to showcase the strengths of South Australia to key airline decision-makers from around the world. City businesses are set to reap the benefits of the large influx of international visitors with the City of Adelaide coordinating the promotion of offers and experiences within the city. Activations exhibiting the State’s unique experiences in premium food, wine and wildlife will also run throughout the duration of the Forum.
Adelaide’s rapidly growing business events sector is significantly contributing to the local economy, with the estimated economic impact of the World Routes to be over $20 million. While international conference visitors spend nearly three times more than the average of international leisure visitors daily, business events also provide the added benefits of attracting global talent to the city while nurturing innovation and collaboration.
In 2017/18, the Adelaide Convention Bureau generated $180 million in economic benefit from 130 events which also created 1,683 jobs. The 46,158 delegates that visited fuelled the visitor economy, staying 187,800 bed nights. The coup of securing the World Routes comes on the back of other noteworthy national and international business events including Australia’s leading Economic Development conference and Great Wine Capitals Global Network meeting.
