Adelaide as a ‘Smart City’ puts people and businesses at the centre of everything we do and focuses on creating an ecosystem of open and citizen-driven innovation.
Our plan is to become one of the world’s smartest cities with a globally connected and opportunity rich economy.
Cisco recognised Adelaide’s potential when it made us Australia’s, and the Southern Hemisphere’s, first Lighthouse City.
What’s already happening
Cisco has installed its latest TelePresence video conferencing technology in the Adelaide Smart City Studio so experts or project participants from anywhere in the city or the world can participate, collaborate and share knowledge.
A network of sensors is being installed around the CBD to support Smart City Pilot Projects. Technology like this will help us better manage things like energy consumption, carbon emissions and the movement of people – and enable us to create informative and entertaining city experiences for residents and visitors alike.
A number of pilot projects are already underway. The Smart Environmental Monitoring, Smart Lighting and Smart City Parking are all pilot projects which will help Adelaide realise its ambition in becoming one of the world’s first smart cities.
Adelaide Smart City Studio
The Adelaide Smart City Studio will create opportunities for innovators to build the products and services that will be needed across the world for other cities to be truly smart.
The Studio has been designed as a flexible space that encourages collaboration in all its forms.
The space can be used:
- To provide large and small workspaces for collaboration between developers, project teams or groups of students
- As a demonstration space, where new services, applications and technologies can be tested and explained
- As a space to host events and meetings
- As a showcase for educating the community, developers and entrepreneurs.
